At ALCAT, we see our mission as two-fold:

1.-       to assist in the movement of diplomats and their families to foreign countries as well as those returning home from foreign postings and to counsel on practical issues related to those transitions; to inform and advise on specific challenges and to exchange best practices;

2.-       to impress upon relevant authorities the importance of improving conditions, where necessary, and to foster the recognition of the spouses’ role and its importance within the diplomatic structures;

ALCAT aims to strengthen ties between the group of spouses as we see informal networking as an important factor and source that should not be ignored or underestimated. In this respect, the association organizes various events throughout the year which include, among others, periodic cultural events and educational visits to institutions and agencies in Luxembourg. ALCAT also organizes social activities such as cooking classes or simply get together for drinks and socializing. Some events are organized in partnership with the spouses of foreign diplomats/embassies in Luxembourg.

 

ALCAT is a member of EUFASA (European Union Foreign Affairs Spouses Association). This membership serves as a point of entry for larger networking and provides further knowledge to assess and compare what other European countries are doing in support of their diplomats and their families.  

 

All diplomatic spouses associations have the particularity that they are “multi-culti” and Luxembourg is probably more so than most. Our association has a truly international dimension, with a membership that covers countries all around the world (e.g. China, Russia, Vietnam, Hungary, Spain, France, Belgium, Sweden, Ghana, Chile, Peru  - to mention a few) - you would fit right in!

 

The annual fee is only 20 €. Application for membership can be completed directly on the ALCAT website.
